About this calculator
The Final Grade Calculator estimates what score you need in a final exam or final assessment to reach a target overall grade. It is useful when you know your current average and the remaining assessment weight.
final grade calculator method
The calculator subtracts the current weighted contribution from the target and divides the remaining amount by the final assessment weight.
- final weight = 100 - current work weight
- required final = (target - current grade x current weight / 100) / (final weight / 100)
How to use the final grade calculator
- Enter your current grade percentage.
- Enter the weight of completed work.
- Enter your target overall grade.
- Calculate the remaining final assessment weight.
- Subtract the current contribution from the target.
- Divide by the final assessment weight.
Worked examples
Need a First
Input: Current 65%, completed weight 60%, target 70%
Calculation: (70 - 65 x 0.60) / 0.40
Result: 77.5% needed in the final exam
Already safe
Input: Current 80%, completed weight 80%, target 60%
Calculation: Current contribution already exceeds target.
Result: Target is already achieved before the final.
Impossible targets
If the required final score is above 100%, the target cannot be reached from the final assessment alone.
Already achieved targets
If the required score is below 0%, your completed work already meets the target mathematically.
UK grading disclaimer
This calculator is for general planning and education only. UK grades are not GPA. Actual GCSE, A-Level, degree, and UCAS outcomes depend on exam boards, universities, course rules, moderation, weighting, grade boundaries, and official published requirements.
- GCSE and A-Level boundaries are set after each exam series.
- Universities can use weighting, best-credit, compensation, or borderline rules.
- UCAS points do not guarantee entry; course requirements vary.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a UK calculator?
Yes. These calculators use UK-style GCSE, A-Level, degree classification, and UCAS concepts rather than US GPA.
Are the grade boundaries official?
No. They are approximate planning guides. Always check your exam board, school, university, or UCAS course page.
Can this predict my final official grade?
It can estimate from the data entered, but official results depend on marking, moderation, boundaries, and institutional rules.
Why do weights matter?
A high mark in a heavily weighted exam affects the overall grade more than the same mark in a lightly weighted assessment.
Does this use GPA?
No. GPA is not used for these UK-focused grade calculators.
